1. What these terms cover

These terms apply to the IP Locator website. By using the site you accept them; if you do not accept them, do not use the site.

They cover this website only. The IP Locator mobile apps are separate products with their own terms.

IP Locator is run by an independent developer under the name LinnetLab, not by a company.

2. What the service is

IP Locator tells you the public IP address your connection is seen with and what is known about it. It is free to use and needs no account.

There is nothing to buy here, and nothing to subscribe to.

3. What the data is, and what it is not

Everything shown about an address is approximate and comes from a third-party data provider. It can be wrong, and it can be out of date.

It describes the network an address belongs to, not the person using it. A city shown next to an address is where that network is registered or routed, which can be hundreds of kilometres from whoever is actually connected, and for a VPN or a mobile carrier it routinely is.

So do not treat any of it as proof of where someone is or who someone is. It is not evidence, and it was never meant to be.

4. No warranty, no promise of availability

The service is provided as is and as available, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied.

We do not promise that the site will be up, that it will be correct, or that it will keep existing. It may change, break, or stop, with or without notice.

5. Fair use

Ordinary use of the site is welcome. These are not:

• trying to disrupt, overload or break the service, or to get around its limits
• automating lookups through the website to collect addresses in bulk
• using the service to profile, locate or identify a person

The number of requests is capped, and in two ways. Requests coming from your own address are capped by themselves — that limit is yours alone. Above it sits a second one: this website calls our API under a single identity shared by everyone visiting it, so that cap is shared as well, and at a busy moment you can be turned away because of other people's activity rather than your own.

If you need volume, the API is where it belongs: it issues per-client credentials with limits of their own. Write to the address below.

6. Limits of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of this website, from the data it shows, or from it being unavailable.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under the law that applies to you. Where a limit above goes further than your law allows, it applies only as far as your law allows and no further.

7. Data and privacy

These terms do not describe what happens to data — that is set out separately, so that the two documents cannot drift apart. What our server sees, what it records, what stays in your browser and what we do not do at all is in the privacy policy.

8. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. When we do, the date at the top of this page changes with it. Continuing to use the site after a change means accepting the updated terms.
