App Terms of Use
Last updated: 2026-09-23
These terms are the basis on which the IP Locator mobile app is offered. They say what is free and what is not, what the app does not promise, and what the data it shows is and is not.
1. What these terms cover
These terms apply to the IP Locator mobile app for Android and iOS. By using the app you accept them; if you do not accept them, do not use it.
They cover the app only. The IP Locator website is a separate product with its own terms.
IP Locator is run by an independent developer under the name LinnetLab, not by a company, based in Ireland. The store you installed the app from has its own terms as well, and they apply to the installation and to any purchase alongside these.
2. What the app is
The app tells you the public IP address your connection is seen with and what is known about it, and lets you keep the results you want to keep, with notes of your own, on your device.
It needs no account. It looks up only your own address — there is no way to look up someone else's.
3. What is free, and where the limits are
The app is free to install and free to use, with three limits that the optional purchase removes:
- a daily cap on how many times you can refresh the lookup by hand — the lookup that runs when you open the screen does not count against it
- a cap on how many saved lookups are shown in the history
- exporting your history to a file
The limits govern what the app shows and does, not what it keeps: nothing you have saved is deleted because a limit was reached, and a saved lookup beyond the display cap is still on your device.
4. The purchase
There is one optional purchase. It is a one-time purchase, not a subscription: it is paid once and does not renew, and nothing is ever charged again.
Payment is taken by Google Play or by the App Store, whichever you installed the app from, under that store's terms. We do not take the payment ourselves and never see your payment details. Refunds are therefore a matter for that store and its refund policy, not for us — we cannot issue one.
The purchase is tied to the store account you bought it with, and can be restored on another device signed in to that account. Restoring returns the purchase, not your saved lookups: those live on the device where you saved them and are not copied between devices by us.
5. What the data is, and what it is not
Everything shown about an address is approximate and comes from a third-party data provider. It can be wrong, and it can be out of date.
It describes the network an address belongs to, not the person using it. A city shown next to an address is where that network is registered or routed, which can be hundreds of kilometres from whoever is actually connected, and behind a VPN or a mobile carrier it routinely is.
So do not treat any of it as proof of where someone is or who someone is. It is not evidence, and it was never meant to be.
6. No warranty, no promise of availability
The app is provided as is and as available, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied.
We do not promise that it will work on every device, that the answers will be correct, that the service behind it will be reachable, or that the app will keep being published. It may change, break or be withdrawn, with or without notice. Where a store's own rules give you rights we cannot exclude, those rules win over this paragraph.
7. Fair use
Ordinary use of the app is welcome. These are not:
- trying to disrupt or overload the service behind the app, or to get around its limits
- modifying, repackaging or redistributing the app, or automating it to collect data in bulk
- using what the app shows to profile, locate or identify a person
8. Limits of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of the app, from the data it shows, from it being unavailable, or from data kept on your own device being lost — including through a device failure, a reset, or a backup that did or did not include it.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under the law that applies to you, or rights you have as a consumer that cannot be waived. Where a limit above goes further than your law allows, it applies only as far as your law allows and no further.
9. Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of Ireland, and the Irish courts have jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.
If you are a consumer, that does not take away the protection of the mandatory rules of the country you live in, nor your right to bring a case where you live. Where those rules give you more than these terms do, those rules win.
10. Data and privacy
These terms do not describe what happens to data — that is set out separately, so that the two documents cannot drift apart. What stays on your device, what backups take with them, what happens when you buy, and what our server sees is in the app's privacy policy.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. When we do, the date at the top of this page changes with it. Continuing to use the app after a change means accepting the updated terms.
